Description

Teacher workload has never been higher on the agenda for schools and academies, as well as more recently for Ofsted.

From the start of this academic year, Ofsted inspectors have been routinely asking headteachers how they intend to reduce their teachers’ workload. At the same time, the next round of new GCSEs will challenge every department to deliver more difficult content while monitoring and addressing student weaknesses in ever increasing detail.
The question now facing school leaders is: How do we ensure demands on teaching staff are manageable, while working to maximise pupil progress?
Our Education Advisers work to support teaching, assessment and progress policies in hundreds of schools across the country. They will be hosting this meeting to share the most effective strategies they have found for reducing teacher workload, without compromising the quality of teaching and learning.

This session will cover practical ideas to reduce teacher workload, including:

  • How to approach your marking policy: whole school approaches and no-marking policies
  • Evidencing student progress: what are the must-haves and what admin can you ditch?
  • Student-centric learning: how to stop spoon-feeding and encourage truly independent learning.
  • An interleaved curriculum: what it is, how you implement it, and why it will save your teachers valuable time.
  • Student-led homework: increasing personalisation and reducing marking
  • Supporting outstanding teaching: methods for enabling NQTs, non-subject specialists and cover staff to deliver high quality lessons
